My Great Week!

So it is official - I am now one quarter of a century old. I feel a little bit sad but not a whole lot sad. I think I feel sad because now I am no longer in my early twenties I am in my late twenties. And late sounds so.... old. If I am like this on my 25th year I can only imagine what it will be like on my 75th! Chris is 25 today - so at least I am not in my late twenties alone! I have been working my butt off trying to get rid of this baby fat! Congratulations to me - I have lost seven pounds since I bought the scale (I am not telling when I bought it). For my b-day Chris got me bike shorts and a bike top. I know what your thinking - spandex is a priviledge not a right. Well, I am woman hear me roar - I am going to wear the spandex come hell or high water. I will tell you this, it is my god given right to try and squish my fat ass into those tight little shorts. They are not uncomfortable, in fact they are quite comfy. They seem to hold all the fat in one place so it doesn't jiggle around and cause me to become off balance on my bike. They are proper bike shorts so they have the great big maxi pad padding in the crotch. Not only does it prevent bruises on my rear end it also prevents cooter cleavage! I have been out riding with the kids quite a bit this past week - even Chris came with us a few times. I am going to make cabbage rolls and chocolate cake for Chris tonight - spoiled rotten! This past week has been an interesting one. Dani pooped in the big potty - I think it was just fluke though. It is really easy to tell when she is going to have a poop in her diaper - she goes to the corner and squats and grunts - pretty easy! So when she went and started doing this the other day I brought her to the toilet and she let her fly! Zach rolled over that same night from his back to his tummy. I am sure he would do it more often if his sister would quit pile driving him every time we put him on the floor. She just wants to sit with him however she doesn't realize that she sits right on him and using him as an assist to get up off the floor doesn't help. She sure loves him to pieces!!! On Tuesday Chris has to go to town for work stuff all day so I am going to go in with our car and take the kids through the stores and then meet Chris for din din. Anyway the floor obviously isn't mopping itself so I better get it done before the kidlets wake up.

A Post About Nothing in Particular.

This post is about nothing in particular. Not that I would even know that anybody is even reading this so they may not even care that this is really not all that interesting. Not that much has been going on around here. Dani learned how to say "no". I just about had a heart attack when I told her to sit in the tub and she said ever so softly "no". I made no reaction to it and told her to sit again - she sat. Friends of ours in Whithorse are moving to Old Crow, they sold their house yesterday, it was on the market less than a week. We went into town on Sunday and stayed the night at our friends house, we helped them drink some incredibly disgusting champagne, they have to get rid of any and all alcohol they may have cause Old Crow is a "dry" community. It is quarter to twelve in the middle of the night and I can still see dark blue in the sky, its just a bit darker than dusk. I made taco's for supper tonight - they were good. I rode my bike all over hell's half acre today - I would take a wild guess that it was between 15 and 20 kilometers - my ass hurts. I pulled the kids behind me in their trailer, you can definately feel the burn when your pulling those two! The trailer rides so smoothly, if it wasn't for the little bit of extra weight you wouldn't even know it was there. Early this afternoon I rode down to see Chris at work and then to the grocery store and home. When I got home I called our friend Robert and asked if he wanted to go for a ride, so back downtown I went and we rode all over the lower part of town and then up and around the airport back down to his house and then I rode home. Tomorrow I will ride again - I have junk in the trunk that I don't want to be bringing with me to BJ's wedding. I have lost about 7 pounds in the last two weeks, I am pretty proud of myself. On Saturday I am going to take the kids to town to go and watch the western firefighters combat challenge. Yes it does interest me to see the whole thing but I am also definately going to see some eye candy!!!! Whitehorse will be competing so I am going to go and cheer them on, I sure miss being on the department there. I am turning 25 on saturday. Aunt Judy hit the nail on the head when she said I am a quarter century old already. Sure glad I don't feel that old. If the next 25 are as good as the last 25 then I will be set! Chris turns 25 next weekend. When we have to disclose information to people they always look at us funny when we tell them our birthdays - must be because our birthdays are so close and in the same year. Zach is so close to rolling over, he gets right up on his side and then flops back down onto his back. They sprayed for mosquitos today. I did some laundry today. Mopped the floors too. Fed the kids. Contemplated having a shower... still am. Fed the dog, forgot about the fish. I broke a child lock off one of the cupboards. Put the kids down for a nap. Changed the tires, chain and seat on my bike. Wore special underwear for no special reason. Danced crazy all alone. Got dressed in five minutes. Blew bubbles all over the kitchen just to hear Danica laugh. Life is good, even when you don't do anything in particular.

Bonfire Night

Night before last we had a bunch of friends over to have a fire in the backyard. We tested out our new pie iron and grill-a-dog that we got from my mom and dad for our birthdays. They worked out pretty awesome although I think that I should have greased them just a little bit more - the bread stuck a few times! Everybody thought I had fallen off my rocker when I told them that everything was already in the grill-a-dog that they needed - bun, hot dog, ketchup, relish and mustard. This was Dani's first time actually out walking around in the back yard - the poor thing looked like a muddy food monster swallowed her up and spat her out - she was filthy!!! She was so dirty that her bath water nearly turned black! Here are some pics of Dani and her friend M. They are so cute together!!! There are also some of Zach - he is around 14 pounds now!!!

Underwear goes inside the pants as do socks inside the fireboots!

Went to a fire call on Saturday afternoon. I was lazing around in my pj's when the alarm went off - alarm that sounds right throughout town - sounds like a big air raid siren!!! Anyway I managed to get a bra on but didn't bother with socks - didn't expect to be gone for 3 and a half hours either! Gross as it may sound I borrowed a pair of socks from a guy who was helping out but wasn't on the fire ground - he is a well put together clean kind of guy so I figured if I turned them inside out I would be okay. I guess I didn't have socks on soon enough cause I have 4 great big blisters on my feet - 3 on one foot and 1 on the other!!! The 3 have just about pretty much healed but the one on the back of my heel on the other foot I think is going to take a while. I was stepping down our front steps and stepped to close to the back of the stair and ripped the blister wide open - it hurt like hell!!! On a sad note - I quit the fire department today - not because of the blisters!!! I'm not into playing head games or looking for a power struggle - I just thought it best to leave on good terms instead of letting them have it! Besides, it wasn't what I am used to as far as departments are concerned - not after having been with Elkford and Whitehorse before Teslin. I think for now I will focus on the kids and maybe getting my craft area downstairs all organized (not likely going to get the craft thing done, but its the thought that counts!) When we leave Teslin I will get on a department in the new town we go to.

I just finished feeding Dani her supper and she has decided that her highchair is a nice place for a mid evening nap - as for Zach, in his carseat on top of the stove seems to be the perfect spot! I think this will be the perfect time for me to get a shower!!!

Snot Rockets and Their Apparent Edibility!!!

Oh how my heart fills with pride and satisfaction knowing that Chris and I have brought two healthy wonderful children into this world. They never cease to amaze me at what they are capable of - even as little as they are. Take for instance this morning - while gazing admiringly at my darling daughter in her high chair - she gives me one of those famous grins and a huge sneeze! I don't have a weak stomach so the huge amount of snot that shot straight out her nose, all over her shirt and upper lip didn't bother me. It was when I got up to get a kleenex that I heard this loud slurping sound coming from the kid - I turn back with a kleenex to find a clean upper lip and a very satisfied 1 year old! So trying not to laugh my head off at the little turkey I blotted what was left under her nose where her tongue couldn't reach and cleaned what was on her shirt before she had a chance to play in it.

As for Zach I am absolutely amazed at what can come out of such a tiny little body! I took him to the doc on Friday (more about Friday in a minute) I wanted to get a cold he has had for the last month checked and I wanted to ask the doc if the way he is pooping is normal. He grunts extremely loud pukes all over me and drops a massive liquid shit in his diaper - rest assured the doc says this is normal and he is a little performer! I think what I am mostly amazed at is the smell of his farts - if I was desperate enough to claim a stinky I would definately claim his! The whole time we were down south if he farted whoever was holding him would swear he had just crapped himself but upon further inspection of the diaper they would soon discover the kid just out and out stinks!

Aside from taking Zach to the doc on Friday I also took the car in to get the winter tires taken off and have the summers put back on. It was a beautiful day so I decided to take the stroller and walk from Kal Tire to the doctors office and back. So when I am finished at the doc's she wants me to take Zach over to the hospital for a chest X-ray just to make sure everything is ok. I had 15 minutes to get there and it was one hell of a walk! I ran part of the way all the while thinking to myself - hang in there girls I promise you won't get bounced like this much more - I quit running - it hurt. So anyway I got finished at the hospital and hoofed my sorry ass back to Kal - the hospital and Kal are on completely oppisite ends of the city!!!
I picked up the car and finished my shopping at Wal Mart and headed over to Superstore. I ran into Jeff - a friend of ours from Carcross and started chatting with him after he had said good bye to the couple he was talking to. I asked him if he knew any teachers and such from carcross and he said that the people he was just talking to were teachers so I started to tell him about this blog and how a lady from Carcross had left a comment on one of my posts - yadda yadda yadda. Anyway it bothered him that he didn't know who I was talking about and I didn't know any names so he left his basket and forgot about his shopping altogether just to find this guy he was talking to. Turns out I end up in line behind him at the check out and decide to ask him myself - amazingly he is the husband of the lady that had left the comment! What a small world - I am thanking my lucky stars that it was the right person otherwise there would have been this completely unsuspecting person standing in the middle of superstore looking at me like I belong at the farm! Anyway out to the car and loading my groceries in I got to meet the lady and her kids - I already met her husband! Who knows maybe this will turn into a unsuspecting friendship! Wouldn't that be cool!

We made it home - in one piece even!

Not much to tell about the drive back up here - thankfully it was not as eventful as the drive down! The car stayed in one piece, the kid only puked once, and we made it back a day early so we had a full day before Chris had to be back at work. We met up with our friend John in Edmonton for dinner again, the next day we wandered aimlessly around west ed till about 1:30 when we decided it was time to suck it up and hit the road. We got into Grande Prairie around six and phoned a family of friends that we haven't seen since we were married - we didn't even know they lived there otherwise we would have stopped on the way down too. We didn't end up leaving Grande Prairie till about 9:00 - both Chris and I were refreshed though and wanted to get to Ft St John that night. We left Fort St John at about 11:00 and wanted to at least make Muncho Lake - it was what we figured would be the halfway point to home. We had made plans to meet with some friends of ours on the side of the road for lunch between here and there. Jen, Evan and Hunter were on their way south and moving back to Ontario. They had all their dogs and most of what they could get packed into their truck and trailer with them. They will be back up again in the fall for the dogsledding season. So as we are going through a somewhat lengthy construction area Chris and I were chatting about how it would suck if this is where we ended up meeting Jen and Evan, well I don't know what Murphy has against me but sure as shit sitting at the other end of the construction zone sticking out like a hugely sore thumb *smiles* are Jen, Evan, Hunter and the trailer! Go to www.havesleddogswilltravel.blogspot.com and you will see why I laugh when I think about it. Once we were finished lunch and back on the road Chris and I decided we would really like to sleep in our own bed that night. We were only halfway and it was already six - we had a long drive ahead of us! Just before we got to the Muncho lake lodge we gave Dani a piece of beef jerky - it stopped her squawking - at least until she bit off too big of a piece and she gagged on it! Chris caught most of the barf in the bucket - only a little bit landed on her! After that she was fine - a little pissed that I took away her jerky! We showed up in Watson Lake just before the last gas station closed. While there we made the phone calls home saying we were going to go straight through to home and would call in the morning. I drove to Swift River and then Chris drove the rest of the way - good thing too I was bagged! I was so tired that I would catch myself drifting off and would think that Chris was talking to me so I would answer with "huh" - little did I know he hadn't said a single word! Anyway we finally made it home at 1am - the kids were in bed and asleep by 1:30 and Chris and I were not far behind at 2. It was so nice to finally sleep in my own bed!
Here are some of the pictures we took while on our holiday.
